This modern take on applique and the resulting fresh designs go to make up a spectacularly useful bookshelf addition. So salient are the processes within this title that there are four chapters (Invisible Zigzag Applique, Alternatives to Invisible Zigzag Applique, Advanced Preparation Techniques, and Finishing the Applique Quilt) dedicated to them, and half of the page count dedicated to perfecting the preparation, production and finishing of the quilt. The patterns are a lovely mix of folk art, Scandinavian simplicity and stark modern designs, using careful applique placement, negative space and lots of quilting for textural effect. Out of the eleven projects, I'd be keen to make all of them, although Trees, Mod and Fall stand out for me. It's also worth mentioning that, unlike many modern titles, the fold-out pattern sheet at the back reproduces the applique pattern pieces at full size. Popular Patchwork
Jenifer Dick began quilting in 1993. In 2001, she discovered applique and has been speaking about it and teaching ever since. She has authored four books and her work has been published in various books and magazines. Jenifer lives in Missouri with her family.
