Modern British Jewry by Geoffrey Alderman
This is a history of the Jews of Britain over the last century and a half. Geoffrey Alderman takes his account up to the present day, exploring the concerns and self-image of contemporary Jewish communities in Britain and their place in an increasingly pluralist society.
His style, a melange of gossip, observation and good sources, makes for an easy and compelling read..you have to come away from this account of modern British Jewry with a better understanding of the forces at work above and below the surface. That's quite something. Jewish Chronicle
