Mono Lake by Dennis Flaherty
Mono Lake lies at the base of the Sierra Nevada's eastern escarpment. The lake supports dense populations of brine shrimp and alkali flies, which feed hundreds of thousands of nesting and breeding migratory water birds. Tufa formations, calcium carbonate sculptures formed underwater by freshwater springs and exposed by dropping lake levels, fascinate lake shore visitors.
Dennis Flaherty is a professional photographer based in Bishop, California. He began his photography career in 1983. His work has been widely published in calendars, books, magazines including Audubon, National Geographic, Backpacker, Outdoor Photographer, and Sierra.
