Alan Postlethwaite is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer who now works as an independent consultant and writer. A life-long lover of railways, he studied railway history during his youth and walked numerous lines of the Southern during the 1950s and 1960s photographing the last vestiges of the steam age. His recent publications include Odd Corners of the Southern and The Best of Southern Steam
