Mostly Women by Michael Ward
Michael Ward worked as a press photographer on the "Sunday Times" for more than thirty years, specialising in pictures of actors, writers, painters and politicians. This remarkable anthology of his work catches the various moods of Britain and its stars from the 1950s to the 1980s - Diana Dors, Julie Christie, the Beatles, Alec Guinness, Barbara Windsor, and David Hockney. But, it is more than a book of photography. "Mostly Women" tells Ward's own strange story: of a boy born to theatrical and quite spectacularly careless parents who sent him to boarding school at the age of three; of his beautiful mother, who fell in love with him; of a failed career as an actor; of his working life on a great newspaper; and of his five marriages and the women in between.
Michael Ward was born in London in 1929 and lives in Sussex with his fifth wife, the actress and dancer Elizabeth Seale.
