Mouldylocks and the Three Clare's by Sally Grindley
One day a rather unpleasant giant called Mouldylocks decides it is time for him to find a good wife. He comes across three cottages inhabited by three Clares - Great Big Clare, Tiny Wee Clare and Medium-sized Clare. He puts each of them to the test in turn. He discards Big Clare and Little Clare, but decides that Medium-sized Clare is just right. There's a twist in the tale, though, when Medium-sized Clare decides that Mouldylocks is not at all right for her.
'Children (and certainly their teachers) will appreciate the twist in this story that has got all the hallmarks of a traditional tale' Books for Keeps (September 2007) 'I thought it was a good read. I would recommend it for ages six and above...it's all about Mouldy Locks (the giant) and his hen...it was really funny'. Junior Edition Plus, Bobby, year 4 (December 07)
