Nealy was born on February 4, 1953, in Birmingham, Alabama. He dropped out of high school before graduating and went to St. John's University. After attending Johns College, he went on to Birmingham-Southern University and received his bachelor's degree. His passions and avocations all become arts in his hands because he applied a comprehensive and rigorous intelligence to them.
