So the pupils in his class, especially Hamish Bigmore, find some very unusual, and often magical, things happening - usually when they are least expecting it.
HUMPHREY CARPENTER was born and educated in Oxford and worked for the BBC before becoming a full-time writer in 1975. He is the author of all the Mr Majeika stories for children and has published several award-winning biographies, including ones of J R R Tolkein, and C S Lewis. From 1994 to 1996 he directed the Cheltenham Festival of Literature and ran a young people's drama group. He has two daughters.
