Murder Pure and Simple is set in a Midlands mining town during the 30s and 40s. BigJohn Oakley, a miner and well-respected chapel-goer, lives in a colliery house with his wife and family. However, a series of events leave Big John powerless to prevent his familys traditional lifestyle from falling apart.
Carl T. Jackson was born in a Nottinghamshire mining town during a time of political uncertainty. Aged 16 years he enlisted into the Royal Navy at H.M.S. Ganges, renowned for its strict discipline, demanding training and tough regimes. After leaving the Navy he worked underground at Pleasley Colliery before being accepted as a Probationary Constable in the Nottinghamshire Constabulary. He retired after 30 years’ service with the rank of Detective Chief Inspector. Following his retirement Carl studied at two local universities and obtained a BA (Hons) degree in History and Creative Writing and a Master’s degree in History.
