The Murders in the Rue Morgue by Edgar Allan Poe

In the three tales collected here, in the only stand-alone volume of the "Dupin Tales" available, Edgar Allan Poe laid down most of the ground rules of detective fiction. August Dupin was the first great Detective, a creation that almost single-handedly gave rise to the genres of mystery and detective stories. Containing the stories "The Murders in the Rue Morgue", "The Purloined Letter" and "The Mystery of Marie Roger", this collection is published in May to coincide with the hardback publication of Matthew Pearl's "The Poe Shadow", his wonderful second novel and follow-up to his international bestseller, "The Dante Club."
Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston, USA, in 1809. Poe, short story writer, editor and critic, he is best known for his macabre tales and as the progenitor of the detective story. He died in 1849, in mysterious circumstances, at the age of forty.
