My Brother Has Oddism by Lisa M Smith
This book is about a child's misinterpretation of their sibling's diagnosis of autism. It takes you through the journey of autism from the sibling's perspective and playfully addresses some of the challenges that they undergo. It is intended to create greater awareness in families with children of autism and to be used as a tool for the other children in the family to open up discussions about their experience.
Dr.Lisa Smith was born and raised in Ohio but moved to Phoenix, AZ twenty-three years ago where she currently resides with her children. When Lisa's son was diagnosed with autism at the age of 3 1/2 years, she began a passionate quest comprised of research, education and hands-on experience and she created a program that ultimately led to the remediation of her son's autism. Now, at age 21, his is considered indistinguishable from his peers! Her life mission is to share this eclectic experience and knowledge to help parents to parent consciously or on purpose. Lisa believes that all behavior is a language and teaches parents to interpret this language. She also believes that effective strategies must incorporate the child's mind, body and spirit to create strong self-esteem.
