This work spans 30 years and reaches from Niagara Falls to Montauk Point. It consists of folklore, character sketches, ghost stories and pieces of regional history. Special attention is given to the fate of Native Americans and the erosion of the State's natural beauty.Carl Carmer was the author of a number of books, including Stars Fell on Alabam, The Hudson (both published by Fordham University Press), and others. Much of his writing reflects his lifelong interest in New York state folklore and history. He was Vice President of the New York State Historical Association's Board of Trustees and an Honorary Trustee of the New York State Folklore Society.
