This book of nature photography from Montana's great outdoors includes photographs of bears, foxes, elk, coyotes, owls, osprey, eagles, herons, bighorn sheep, bison, chipmunks, squirrels, moose, deer, pronghorn, insects, mountains, lakes, and rivers. This book does not contain many things. It does not contain descriptions of how many pairs of socks I put on after waking up before dawn so that I could find a parking space and hike straight uphill for many miles through clouds of bloodthirsty mosquitoes to arrive at the summit just as the sun rose. No doubt I did each of these things, but they don't make the photographs any better. It does not contain descriptions of my photography gear or settings, lenses, apertures, shutter speeds, ISOs, tripods, selfie sticks, or the best fanny pack for the discriminating modern photographer on the go. It does not contain pleas or lectures about respecting the environment, packing it out, leaving no trace, or caring about the animals. The photographs speak for themselves and it is my sincere hope that viewing the photographs in this book will inspire the same connection to the natural world and desire to protect it that I experience while making them. It does not contain chapters, sections, or even a planned order to the photographs. Every page turned could reveal a lake, a mountain, an eagle, a squirrel, an elk, a bear, or a damselfly. Just like Montana, you never know what you will see on the next page. What this book does contain is just . . . my Montana.
