Lily Tobias grew up in Ystalyfera in the Swansea valley. Her parents were Jewish immigrants from Poland. She was a committed pacifist and two of her brothers were conscientious objectors. Author of four novels and a short story collection, Tobias also contributed regularly to the Jewish press in the UK and Israel, and was the first to adapt Daniel Deronda for the stage. Jasmine Donahaye is author of the monograph Whose People? Wales, Israel, Palestine, a study of Welsh and Jewish cultural interactions.
