"Nancy Blackett" by Roger Wardale
From the published and unpublished writings on sailing in the Ransome archives, and from anecdote passed on to him by those who knew Ransome well, the author has pieced together a portrait of that old sea-dog Captain Flint, alias Arthur Ransome himself.
Roger Wardale co-founded the Arthur Ransome Society, serving on the main committee and as chairman. For five years he also ran the subscriber-based publishing group that put out an annual book about Ransome for members. He has published several books on Arthur Ransome, including Arthur Ransome's Lakeland, Arthur Ransome's East Anglia and Nancy Blackett: Under Sail with Arthur Ransome ('Delightful' The Times). Roger is a retired junior school teacher with an interest in photography and traditional boats. He lives in Bognor Regis.
