He became well known as an activist, published the first Black newspaper and in 1849 published his autobiography, one of the earliest and rarest books ever written by an American slave, a remarkable account of his life as a slave.
Bibb, Henry: - Henry Bibb (1815-1854) was born in Shelby County, Kentucky, the son of an enslaved woman named Mildred Jackson and a state senator. He escaped to freedom and became an antislavery activist, publishing his Narrative in 1849.
