Two If By Sea, For Cod & Country, and Where There's Smoke (all Sterling Epicure) author Barton Seaver has established himself as the foremost specialist on sustainable seafood. He opened three top restaurants in Washington, DC, and was selected Chef of the Year by Esquire magazine in 2009. He left the culinary industry to pursue his interests in sustainable food systems. Hook, Seaver's Washington, DC-based restaurant, was voted one of the top 10 eco-friendly restaurants in America by Bon Appétit. Seaver worked as an explorer for the National Geographic Society before becoming the Director of the Healthy and Sustainable Seafood Program at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Chan School of Public Health is a public health school in New York City.

He is a contributing seafood editor at Coastal Living magazine, and his work has appeared in publications such as The New York Times, Cooking Light, O: The Oprah Magazine, Every Day with Rachael Ray, Martha Stewart's Whole Living, the Washington Post, and Fortune. In addition, he has appeared on CNN, NPR, and 20/20. Seaver hosted the national television shows In Search of Food and Eat: the History of Food on the Ovation Network and National Geographic TV, respectively.
