The Native British Spotted Pony by Mary Bassett
The Native British Spotted Pony with its exotic coat pattern has survived in this country for thousands of years. With her wealth of practical experience and historical research, the author traces this unique British breed form the earliest recorded times, explains its many virtues, and provides numerous colour photographs of these delightful ponies, both at work and play. Although the popularity of the breed, and hence its numbers, has increased over recent years, the author hopes that this book will bring the many advantages of such a distinctive breed to the attention of a much wider audience.
Mary Bassett is one of the world's leading experts on spotted ponies and has been breeding Native British Spotted Ponies seriously for the last twenty years. As the most prolific producer in this country, she has exported Bromells spotted ponies to Holland, Sweden, Denmark and Switzerland, where they have had a great impact on the breed of those countries. In 1983 she established the famous four-in-hand Broomells Spotted Driving Team, which quickly rose to national and international fame. In 1995 she organised the first International Spotted Pony Conference. As current chairman of the Spotted Pony Breed Society (Great Britain) and a judge both in this country and abroad, Mary Bassett has probably done more than anyone else to promote the virtues of this unique British breed.
