Nature and Nurture by Robert Plomin
Intended as a supplement to upper-division courses in personality, developmental psychology, environmental psychology and cognition, this book presents an overview of the methods and findings of behavioural genetics. Designed for undergraduates, it discusses heredity, molecular genetics, and the effects of heredity on behaviour. The author emphasizes both environmental and hereditary influences and provides a balanced look at behavioural genetics, including concise and up-to-date research findings and methods. This text discusses the part heredity plays in: IQ and memory; alcoholism, depression, and schizophrenia; sociability, activity, and other aspects of personality; our reactions to experiences; and similarities among children raised in the same family.Robert Plomin is a Professor of Behavioural Genetics at King's College London's Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Neuroscience. He has worked at the University of Colorado Boulder and Pennsylvania State University in the past. For his twin research and revolutionary work in behavioral genetics, he was named a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and the British Academy. G is for Genes: The Influence of Genetics on Education and Performance (coauthored with Kathryn Asbury) is one of his many books.
