Nature in Design by Alan Powers
This text examines nature's profound influence on designers in all disciplines, including architecture, civil engineering, interior and landscape design, clothes and graphic art. It assesses the ideas of designers who have been inspired by nature, from Leonardo Da Vinci, through William Morris and Charles Rennie Mackintosh, to Alvar Aalto and Frank Gehry. Photographs of their work are used to support the author's interpretation of the philosophy and psychology of design.
Alan Powers, the General Editor of this revised edition, is Senior Lecturer at the University of Greenwich School of Architecture and Landscape, London. He has published several books and monographs on English architecture, interiors and decorative arts including Modern: The Modern Movement in Britain and the bestselling Living with Books (also Mitchell Beazley) which was translated in 6 languages.
