Many women suffer from pregnancy sickness, with symptoms ranging from mild, temporary nausea to persistent and severe vomiting. Gestational sickness is, however, attributed to physiological rather than pathological which causes obstetricians to dismiss it as a "minor" disorder, yet for many expectant mothers it has a profound impact on their daily lives, even if only temporarily. It explores the incidence, causes, effects and complications associated with pregnancy nausea and vomiting, together with a comparative study of conventional and complementary medical approaches to management and care of these women. Denise Tiran is a qualified midwife and runs her own private clinic for expectant mothers. She is an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Greenwich, has written widely in the national press, and is a published author.
