The vegetal life of Goethe in the safety of Weimar allowed for calm reflection and the creation of works expressive of a thought, a moral and intellectual stance crucial in the history of our culture. In this volume, we present two examples of this work, worthy of featuring--and indeed already featured--in what Goethe himself designated as Weltliteratur, that is, literature of universal interest and acceptance.
