Nelson's Funfair Holiday by Claire Carey

Nelson is a very lucky little boy. Not only is he off to the fun fair, but it's his auntie's fun fair! He can't wait to see Auntie Claire and her family, as well as his friend Cy - and to go on all of his favourite rides. Plus he gets to stay in Auntie Claire's caravan, which much more exciting than a house. But not everything quite goes to plan, and soon Nelson discovers he's still a bit too little to do everything he wants to do. Luckily, he'll soon see that even though he's still small, he can have tons of fun - and that actually helping out can be as much fun as playing at pirates, or Martians, or firemen. This sweet and funny book reminds us how great it can be to help out, be safe and have fun.
Claire Carey grew up on a fairground where she enjoyed a sense of freedom and learned that togetherness and hard work creates a bond that pulls everyone together. She wouldn't change anything about her childhood, but her advice to her younger self would be to not worry about the discrimination that can sometimes go hand in hand with growing up on the fairground with the difficulties of not staying in a place for more than a few weeks at a time and having limited schooling. These experiences make you stronger.
