JORIE GRAHAM was born in 1950. She grew up in Italy and studied at the Sorbonne, Columbia University, and at the University of Iowa. The Dream of the Unified Field: Selected Poems (Carcanet, 1996) drew on several earlier collections: Hybrids of Plants and of Ghosts (1980), Erosion (1983), The End of Beauty (1987), Region of Unlikeness (1991)and Materialism (1993). She received the 1996 Pulitzer Prize for The Dream of the Unified Field: Selected Poems 1974-1994. She was appointed Boylston Professor at Harvard University in succession to Seamus Heaney.
