Believe me, my wife and I wrote the book on how not to have a marriage. We took our vows after being together for only four months, were without faith, and had no clue about what this marriage union and covenant really meant. Soon after our first child was born, we were fighting like the worst of enemies. Eventually, as with so many marriages, we were divorced. Within the next few years, we hit our lowest point, but through looking for foundations of truth, our lives were changed through faith in Christ. We soon were remarried, had two more children, and began on a path to understand the keys to love, marriage, and faith. As we began to see the true purpose of marriage and the strains and struggles couples face when they don't understand this purpose, it became evident it was time to write a book that points to a biblical marriage. Our marriage was full of insecurity, jealousy, anger, frustration, lack of trust, and without direction. All of this led us to look to God and His leading as we fought for a successful marriage. This 30-day devotional is aimed at revealing the promises we found in God's Word. These promises are fulfilled as we reflect Him daily as two who have become one, sacrificially living for one another and dying to self. This book reveals theological truths, exposes common struggles, and provides practical applications. Marriage is the first ministry a spouse has after his or her walk with Jesus, and our goal is to strengthen that foundation as you humbly open yourselves to God's Word, letting Him speak to you as He pastors your walk ahead.
BRIAN SUMNER originally of Liverpool, England, came to America as a teenager to pursue a career as a professional skateboarder for Tony Hawk's Birdhouse. He toured the world riding for the biggest sponsors and soon became a main stay in the skateboard culture. Brian was married at 19, had a child, and divorced by 22. Though over living, it was through a life changing journey that Brian soon came to faith, as did his ex-wife some time later, eventually leading to their being re-married. Since then Brian has traveled the world sharing the Gospel message. Today, he pastors in Huntington Beach, California, at Rock Harbor Church, and travels to evangelize, preach, and Teach at outreaches and on missions worldwide.
