The New Believers by David V Barrett
The membership of a wide range of religious and other movements is ever growing, causing mixed reactions from non-members, families of members and the media. This book is a response to this, offering a source of information about a whole range of alternative belief systems, non-mainstream religions, cults and sects. Issues including brainwashing, the difficulties of leaving movements and "cults that kill" are explored.
David V. Barrett is a contributor to The Independent, Fortean Times, Catholic Herald and amazon.co, and has researched and written on religious and esoteric topics since his teens. Prior to working freelance, he was a teacher and intelligence analyst for the US National Security Agency and UK government at GCHQ. A full time writer since 1991, he is currently researching for a Ph.D. in the Sociology of New Religions at the London School of Economics.
