New York Orphan by Rosemary J Kind

From fleeing the Irish Potato Famine, to losing his parents on the ship to New York, seven-year-old Daniel Flynn knows about adversity. As Daniel sings the songs of home to earn pennies for food, pick-pocket Thomas Reilly becomes his ally and friend, until he too is cast out onto the street.

A destitute refugee in a foreign land, Daniel, together with Thomas and his sister Molly, are swept up by the Orphan Train Movement to find better lives with families across America. For Daniel will the dream prove elusive?

How strong are bonds of loyalty when everything is at stake?

Based on real history, the strength of the characters in New York Orphan will move you with their desperate plight to survive. A gripping story of love, loss, betrayal and bonds of kinship.

Rosemary J. (Rosemary J. Kind is plainly insane. She has now co-authored three books with her dog and helps him write his journal using technology. She is the only individual we know who named her company after her dog, and she is completely dedicated to the development of the Entlebucher Mountain Dog breed in the United Kingdom, having first discovered it in the Encyclopaedia of Dogs in 1998. She has written five books in her own right, including a non-fiction book in 'Negotiation Skills for Attorneys,' a poetry collection called 'Poems for Life,' two novels called 'The Appearance of Truth' and 'The Lifetracer,' and a hilarious look at London Tube travel called 'Lovers Take Up Less Room.'

She lives in North Yorkshire with her three dogs and her long-suffering husband. An Entlebucher Mountain Dog is Alfie Dog. Einstein van de Tiendenschuur is his full name, and he was born in Belgium in 2005. He spent the first two years of his life in Belgium before moving to the United Kingdom in 2008 and settling in North Yorkshire.

He began writing his journal at the age of ten weeks and has continued to do so every day since, with the exception of one day when his human was in the hospital and he couldn't remember the password. His diary may be seen at www.alfiedog.me.uk. He is also the co-author of the novel 'Alfie's Woods,' as well as the Pet Dogs Democratic Party Platform. He resides with Shadow (Aisha Princess of Beauty), who is now the mother of 18 of the UK's 50 Entlebuchers and is expecting her final litter this year. Aristotle, Shadow's errant kid, is his second friend. He terrorizes Alfie while idolizing him at the same time.
