Nickolai of the North by Lucy Daniel Raby

Nickolai is the last true elf left in the world, rescued from the fate of his people by Comet, a flying reindeer. Brought up by human parents in the distant north, Nickolai knows that there's something different about him. Teased and bullied because of his pointed ears, he seeks solace with the reindeer in the enchanted forest. But when Magda starts to steal children's youth in order to regain her own beauty, Nick must travel north to foil her evil plans ...
'A real yuletide treat.. If it doesn't give you that Xmas feeling, then there is no help for it: you have become Scrooge.' -- The Times 20061217 'Enchantingly original ... thrilling twists ensure that this will become a Christmas classic.' -- The Independent 20051021 A gem... an imaginative fantasy. -- Daily Mail 20061208 'This definitive story of how Santa came to be recreates the magic of Christmas with elves, fairies, flying reindeer, and plenty of snow and ice. A classic myth in the making, presented in a luxurious gift edition.' -- Starred review, Publishing News 20050701
Lucy started writing as soon as she could hold a pen and has never stopped. She had the idea for Nickolai whilst talking to her daughter about who filled Santa's stocking when he was little. She wrote much of the book in midsummer, conjuring up the snow and ice of winter.
