Nine Lives by David Courtney
A memoir of David Courtney's life as a helicopter rescue pilot in Ireland. It introduces readers to the many people who work with rescue crews, and how the entire system works.
Originally from Tullamore, David joined the Defence Forces as a cadet in 1980. He was commissioned as an officer in 1982 and qualified as a pilot 1983. He has flown helicopters since 1986 and joined civil helicopter Search And Rescue (SAR) in 1994 operating as Coast Guard SAR Captain until 2001. He has flown approx. 300 emergency flights of all types. He is married with four daughters. He lives in Ennis and now works as a commercial airline pilot.
