Nine Nightingales by Pat Warner

This work is by the author of "Lockkeeper's Daughter" which described Pat Warner's childhood and life in a lockkeeper's cottage at Tardebigge in Worcestershire. The book looks at Tardebigge, the village, during the early years of the 20th century and considers the impact of World War I upon the tiny community. The VAD Hospital in the village hall, the Earls of Plymouth, and Hewell Grange are all featured in this review which saw many social changes. The title comes from the "Nightingale" bed clothing worn by wounded soldiers and named after Florence Nightingale who designed the Nightingale to be cut from a sheet of flannel in field hospitals.
