Bethany M. Gardiner is a pediatrician, award-winning author, and seasoned mother of three, one of whom was adopted as a teenager from Ukraine. She is also a homeschooler with over a decade of experience homeschooling her own children and teaching co-op classes for other homeschoolers. Her first book, Highlighting Homeschooling, won 4 book awards, including being a finalist for the New Horizons Award for debut authors. A National Merit Scholar who was accepted into the Honors Program at the University of Florida, she graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor's of Science in Mathematics and a Bachelor's of Arts in Statistics. Following graduation, she attended medical school at the University of Florida, graduating with honors in 1994. After completing medical school, Dr. Gardiner did her internship and pediatric residency at the University of Florida's Urban Campus. She also became an expert in sexual abuse, working with the Duval County Sexual Assault Response Team as a specialized pediatric examiner. Upon completion of residency, she joined Interlachen Pediatrics in Orlando, FL and became a board certified pediatrician and an internationally board certified lactation consultant. After two biologic children left her unable to have others, Dr. Gardiner and her husband decided to adopt from Ukraine. They adopted a 14 year old boy and have chronicled the process and integration in their family with the blog, Dearest Dema. Currently, she lives in Seattle with her three children and is married to the same man she met as a freshman in college twenty-seven years ago. She enjoys traveling, reading, hiking, and writing.
