Richard Condon (1915-1966) began writing in 1957 after a brief career as an ad writer and Hollywood agency. His second novel, The Manchurian Candidate (1959), and the 1962 film adaptation of it made him a household name. Prizzi's Honor, his novel, was adapted into a popular film.
