Stephen F., Ph.D. Arno graduated from the University of Montana with a PhD in forestry and plant science in 1970. Before retiring in 1999, he worked as a research forester for the USDA Fire Sciences Laboratory in Missoula, Montana. For more than 40 years, he has conducted restoration forestry on his family's ponderosa pine forest and has written several books about trees and forests. He appreciates the arduous process of harvesting firewood and utilizing it to heat the family's home as a devout woodland dweller.
