Kathleen Huggins is a board-certified lactation consultant and a registered nurse. She is largely credited for establishing the lactation consultant discipline as a major component of maternal-child health care in US hospitals. She built her name by establishing and administering a model breastfeeding clinic at San Luis Obispo General Hospital in California, talking widely to professional peers and hospital executives, and publishing The Nursing Mother's Companion. She's also the co-author of Nursing Mother, Working Mother and The Nursing Mother's Guide to Weaning.
