The October Testament by Ruth Magnusson Davis

The October Testament is the combined work of three people:

William Tyndale: This is Tyndale's last New Testament, his 1535 revision, as it was taken into the 1537 Matthew Bible. He completed it just before he was captured and martyred. Few realize that the KJV relied heavily on Tyndale. Therefore readers will find much that is familiar here.

John Rogers: In 1537, after Tyndale died, John Rogers published this New Testament together with notes and commentaries in the little-known but important Matthew Bible. King Henry VI then licensed it, and the MB was authorized for use in the churches.

Ruth Magnusson Davis, 2016: Now, almost 500 years later, Ruth M. Davis has updated Tyndale's scriptures along with John Rogers' notes, and all with a very gentle hand, guarding the historic language and truth of the faith. Ruth worked from an original, rag paper 1549 edition of the Matthew Bible.

The name October Testament recalls Martin Luther's September Testament. More significantly, however, just as the advent of October signals the approach of the end of a calendar year, so it also reminds us that the year of the Lord is drawing ever onward to its close.

Magnusson Davis, Ruth: - Ruth Magnusson Davis, B.A., LL.B., is a retired lawyer with an undergraduate degree in languages. She is a foremost authority on the 1537 Matthew Bible, and in 2009 founded the New Matthew Bible Project, dedicated to gently updating the Matthew Bible for today. She is also the founder of Baruch House Publishing, with a mission to bring to the world again the best of the forgotten works of the early English Reformation.
