The Odyssey of a Sound Recordist by Malcolm Stewart
In a time before television had really started, the computer age had barely begun and there was only one domestic channel on the radio the BBC Home Service. One of the few operators changing the discs was a 15-year-old boy from the East End of London. The year was 1944 and Malcolm Stewart had just embarked on a ground-breaking career.
Born in 1929, Malcolm Stewart’s first job was as a trainee technician at the BBC in Daventry. By 1944, he had returned to London to work for the BBC Overseas Service, before he was drafted into the RAF and sent to Forces Broadcasting in Hamburg. Upon his return to London in 1949, Malcolm joined the film industry. Malcolm passed away in June 2018, and the book is being published posthumously by his son, Nigel.
