Old Oak is having a mast year - a year of plentiful fruit! Little Acorn grows happily right by his nose, and never wants to leave the tree. Carried away by a squirrel, and buried in a strange place, he must survive all the perils of walkers, insects, deer and other wildlife. Finally emerging as a sturdy little sapling, he discovers he is still in the barley field, growing near Old Oak, whose sap rises with pride to see his favourite Little Acorn becoming a tree. Elena Mannion lives in a small, historic village surrounded by nature. A keen walker and nature lover who takes her holidays in a far flung forest, she is passionate about keeping children connected to the natural world, as well as fostering a love of reading. 'Children's stories take us back to the magical place where we all started: we can rediscover all those feelings of freedom and a world full of promise.' Erin Brown is a Northern Irish illustrator who lives on beautiful Jersey. After graduating in Fine Art, a passion for children’s books took hold. She combines her love for hand drawn lines and traditional techniques with the freedom of adding colour digitally. When not working, she can be found baking, exploring, or down at the sea shore. This is her second collaboration with Elena Mannion, their first book being the much praised 'The Happy Hedgerow' (2021), also featuring Old Oak.
