On Narrowness by Claire Crowther

On Narrowness is Claire Crowther's third collection. Her previous collections attracted wide attention; the first was shortlisted for the Aldeburgh first collection prize. She is poet-in-residence at the Royal Mint Museum for 2014-15 and lives in Somerset with her husband, physicist Keith Barnham.
Claire Crowther worked as a consumer journalist, editor and communications director until recently, when she received a bursary from Kingston-upon-Thames University to complete a long poem project, which explores the conflicts between the cultural expectations and real lives of twentieth-century grandmothers. (An excerpt from this appeared in Shearsman magazine, issue 67/68 in 2006. The online version can be found here.) This project has now been completed, and was published by Shearsman in 2009 as The Clockwork Gift. On Narrowness is her third collection. Claire Crowther lives in the West Country with her partner, a solar cell physicist.
