Summary
The feel-good place to buy books

The One About The Sheep And Other Stories by Catherine Evans
The sheep that's a good listener. The woman and the ice cream salesman. The young man who falls in love with a washing machine. That age old tale. Funny, macabre, heart-breaking, eerie, disturbing, provocative...the 21 stories in this collection of originals are all winners of the Chipping Norton Literary Festival Short Story Competition Winners from its inception in 2016 to 2022. The stories are hugely varied in style and genre, and will appeal to any lover of fiction and the much-loved short story form. They have impressed the likes of Tessa Hadley, Nicholas Royle, Rachel Sieffert, Sarah Franklin, Martyn Waites, Isobel Dixon and Yasmin Kane. -- Catherine EvansA great collection of short stories, from a variety of talented authors
Well! That was fun. I did not expect an anthology of short stories by as yet not established authors to be quite so good. It promises a lot for the future of English literature! I was tempted to buy it because I've enjoyed the Chipping Norton Literary Festival so much, and because the editor's name on the front cover caught my eye. (Catherine Evans, whose novel The Wrong'un I thought quite brilliant.) It would be unfair to pick one of the many stories that entertained me as the best but - what the heck! Let's be unfair! - my favourite was the creepy Mrs Brooker by Jane Branson. I still shudder as I think about it.
-- BNSW19Each story is acute and pithily told. My favourite came at the end. M C Clary's poignant 'I used to live here.'
A treasure trove of writing talent.
Great read. The short stories have good depth and each a unique tone. Perfect for a coffee table or a busy schedule; read a whole story and then carry on! Highly recommend!
