Kara J. was born in the highlands and raised in the desert. McDowell enjoyed swimming, sailing, and making up stories in her brain as a child. She enjoyed growing up in a large household, where there was always someone to play with, fight with, and read with. Kara worked as a freelance writer and blogger after graduating from Arizona State University. She now resides in Arizona with her husband and three young sons, where she writes novels for teenagers.
