Sheila Burnford was born in Scotland and lived in Canada for the majority of her life until her death in 1984. She wrote both children's and adult fiction and nonfiction books. She worked as an ambulance driver during WWII. Her debut novel was The Amazing Trip. Carl Burger was an illustrator and author of children's books in the United States who died in 1967. His most famous works include The Amazing Journey and Old Yeller.
