Dr. Burke had a degree in exercise physiology and worked as a consultant for various companies in the fields of cycling, fitness equipment design, nutritional goods, and fitness programs.
He was a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Strength and Conditioning Association's vice president of research, with whom he was qualified as a strength and conditioning specialist. Dr. Burke was also a professor at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, where he and his wife, Kathleen, directed the exercise science program. In 2002, Dr. Burke passed away.
