Christine Lavelle is a lecturer in horticulture and ecology at Writtle College, Chelmsford. She trained at The National Trust for Scotland, Threave School of Practical Gardening and the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew. At Kew she developed her interest organic principles, and has worked in many different areas of horticulture including Levens Hall Gardens, Cumbria and two head gardenerships at Askham Bryan College, York and Otley College, Suffolk. She is currently researching insect visitation on garden ornamentals at the Writtle College. Michael Lavelle began his career as an estate gardener and went on to study horticulture at Askham Bryan College, and then environmental management at Wye College, Kent. He worked as a landscaper before starting a career as a horticultural lecturer. Michael has designed and constructed several exhibits at the Chelsea Flower Show obtaining the prestigious Gold Medal 1999. He now works as a senior lecturer in landscape management at Writtle College. Peter Anderson is an experienced photographer, and has worked for various publications such as Gardens Illustrated and Architectural Digest.
