Our Game by Of History Charles C Alexander
This entertaining history blends anecdote, incident, and analysis as it chronicles the story of our national pastime. Alexander covers the advent of the first professional baseball leagues, the game's surge in the early twentieth century, the Golden Twenties and the Gray Thirties, the breaking of the color line in the late forties, and the game's expansion to its current status as a premier team sport. He describes changing playing styles and outstanding teams and personalities but also demonstrates the many connections between baseball--as game, sport, and business--and the evolution of tastes, values, and institutions in the United States.
Alexander, Charles: - Charles Alexander was born and raised in the dock area of Liverpool. It was there that he was converted to Jesus Christ. Married to Verna from Manitoba, they have three married children and a bigger bunch of grandchildren! After ordination, he was responsible for the building of three new growing churches and was cofounder of Anglican Renewal Ministries of Canada. Has a passion for a second reformation which includes what was left out of the first! He has conducted conferences in almost every part of Canada, in many areas of the U.S., Britain and other parts of the world. His ministry is for the entire Church and he teaches the how's and whys of effective, local discipleship. Why are mainline churches so poor in doing the great commission of Jesus? This book is a reflection of an enabling ministry which also includes writing.
