"It was a great idea to get Sir Ian McKellen to narrate Michelle Paver's gripping and fascinating CHRONICLES OF ANCIENT DARKNESS.. Paver researched the subject deeply but wears her learning lightly, and McKellen has such vocal charisma that he holds you rapt." -- Christina Hardyment THE TIMES "Never mind the kids, I've been queueing up for the next instalment of Paver's CHRONICLES OF ANCIENT DARKNESS ... Spine-chillingly scary and utterly riveting." -- Sue Arnold GUARDAIN "Sir Ian McKellen gives an incredibly atmospheric rendition of Michelle Paver's book." BFKBOOKS.COM "Ian McKellen narrates with consummate skill." TIMES 'As well as powerful characterisation and heart-thumping plots, they offer fascinating practical details of how life was lived in the Stone Age.' 3 July 2010 -- Christina Hardyment THE TIMES
Born in Malawi to a Belgian mother and a father who ran the tiny 'Nyasaland Times', Michelle Paver moved to the UK when she was three. She was brought up in Wimbledon and, following a Biochemistry Degree from Oxford, she became a partner in a big City law firm. Eventually, though, having submerged herself in myth and folklore (not at the office) and having been chased by a bear (again, not at work), she gave up the lawyer life to follow her long-held dream of becoming a writer. Successfully published as an adult author, the CHRONICLES OF ANCIENT DARKNESS are her first - brilliant - books for children. Ian McKellen is internationally renowned for his distinguished work on stage and screen over four decades. He has won over 40 acting awards. He plays Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings, Magneto in the X-Men films and Sir Leigh Teabing in The Da Vinci Code. Throughout his career, he has enjoyed working regularly for radio. His solo reading of The Odyssey for Penguin Books won a U.S. Audie in 1997. His full biography is on www.mckellen.com
