Over the Moon by Shirley Hughes
Traditional proverbs and sayings often refer to objects or ways of life unfamiliar to children today. This is a collection of them, accompanied by straightforward explanations and illustrations, and published simultaneously with a companion volume, "Make Hay While the Sun Shines".
Shirley Hughes studied at Liverpool Art School and the Ruskin School of Fine Art, Oxford. From the 1950s she worked as a freelance illustrator of other authors' books. She began to write and design picture books when she had a young family of her own. She is best-known for series like the Lucy and Tom books and the Alfie and Annie Rose books. She has won several awards including the Kate Greenaway Award and the Eleanor Farjeon Award for her services to children's literature.
