Walter Van Tilburg Clark, author of The Ox-box Incident, The City of Trembling Leaves, The Watchful Gods and Other Tales, and The Trail of the Cat, was born in Virginia City and is regarded as one of Nevada's most illustrious novelists. He is one of Nevada's most illustrious literary characters of the twentieth century, as well as a major interpreter of the American West, having been born in 1909. In 1971, Clark died in Virginia City, Nevada.
