The Oxford Illustrated History of Modern Europe by T C W Blanning

BLThe only fully illustrated general history of modern Europe BLFeatures over 150 pictures, including 24 pages of colour This lavishly illustrated history of Europe, from the late eighteenth century to the present day, offers a fascinating guide to the momentous events, achievements, and personalities that have stamped their mark on the great continent. Each of the eleven contributors is a scholar of international standing, and together they present an account of modern Europe which is both stimulating and accessible. Writing incisively and entertainingly, they trace Europe's turbulent history from the beginnings of the revolution in France to the break-up of the Soviet Union and today's new kaleidoscope of nation-states. The volume presents both change and continuity, revolutions and stability--not only in politics but also in the economic, social, cultural and military life of Europe--while the great wealth of illustrations complements the text at every stage. Everyone who reads this book will achieve a better understanding of the world in which we live, how it came to be what it is, and even where it may be going next. Contributors...
