Earl Pomeroy (1915-2005) was a history professor emeritus at the University of California, San Diego, as well as a history professor emeritus at the University of Oregon, Eugene. He was a pioneer in the study of sociocultural patterns in western history, and he authored a number of well-received works about the American West in the twentieth century, including The Pacific Slope and The American Far West in the Twentieth Century. He is the author or editor of a number of works, including Whitewashed Adobe: The Development of Los Angeles and the Remaking of Its Mexican Heritage and A Companion to California History (co-authored with David Igler).
