Berlie was born in Liverpool and grew up by the seaside. Always a great lover of books and poetry, Berlie is now one of our foremost children's authors of fiction, poetry and picture books. She has twice won the coverted Carnegie medal for Dear Nobody and Granny was a Buffer Girl and is a wonderful performer and poet. Alison studied illustration at Anglia College of Art in Cambridge and began an M.A. At Kingston University. In 1993 she was shortlisted for the Macmillan Prize for Oliver's Vegetables. She lives in Bristol with her young son. .
